On 11 April, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) hosted its annual Open Day, during which prospective students and other interested visitors had the chance to explore the RSU study environment and the wide range of study opportunities available. On this day, the Rīga Stradiņš University Medical Education Technology Centre (RSU METC) also opened its doors.

Visitors to the RSU METC stepped into the shoes of healthcare professionals, trying out various simulations and practical skills. They also had the opportunity to meet representatives from the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences and learn more about study programmes and career opportunities in healthcare.

During the hands-on activities, participants were able to try orthotic and prosthetic devices, learn about working with patients in the emergency department, and even practice applying casts. They also explored the practical aspects of obstetrics, took various psychological tests, and tested their skills in surgical suturing, laparoscopy and first aid using training mannequins.

Visitors also learned about the organisation of the operating theatre – including proper hand-washing techniques, surgical instruments and the simulation training process. Other activities included nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, nutrition, social work, and public health.

During the event, prospective students had the opportunity to speak with teaching staff and students to gain a clearer understanding of the academic process, daily life at the university, and admission requirements.

The event attracted more than 1,000 visitors, giving prospective students the opportunity to explore the academic environment and the wide range of study opportunities in healthcare and medicine, helping them to make informed decisions about their future studies and careers.
