Study Centre
The RSU Study Centre is the largest educational facility located within a Latvian hospital. It reflects the educational mission embedded in the name of Riga East University Hospital (RAKUS), ensuring high-quality training and contributing to the broader healthcare system.
RSU has modernised and repurposed the former Block 13 of RAKUS for student training, providing both theoretical and clinical study courses in parallel with real-life hospital experience. The centre comprises 23 classrooms, including two lecture theatres, each capable of accommodating over 150 students. To support the development of a simulation-based approach to education, four simulated environment classrooms have been set up at the Study Centre.
The simulation rooms, created by the Medical Education Technology Centre (METC), are equipped with task trainers, mannequins, patient simulators, and virtual reality tools. These facilities allow students to practise a wide range of clinical skills, such as the correct use of personal protective equipment, administering injections, urinary catheterisation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), as well as communication and teamwork skills.
METC clinical simulation specialists and instructors conduct simulation sessions both within undergraduate study programmes and professional development courses delivered at the Study Centre.
The Study Centre supports training in internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, infectious diseases, dermatology, pathology, radiology, and other fields. It also serves as a venue for various academic and professional events organised by students, lecturers, and healthcare professionals — including conferences, seminars, academic contests, continuing professional development courses, summer schools, symposia, and more.
