* Upon completion of the basic first aid training programmes, a certificate of the corresponding colour is issued (Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 557 (14.08.2012) “Regulations on First Aid Training”).

 

Programmes are designed based on the latest guidelines of the European Resuscitation Council. 

Basic training programme includes: 

  • Basic resuscitation algorithm 
  • Psychological aspects of first aid, a rescuer’s safety
  • Control of life-threatening bleeding
  • Action in emergencies (drowning, car accident, electric shock, choking, injury caused by a foreign object, animal-related injury, chemical exposure, overheating/hypothermia, etc.)
  • Actions in case of various medical conditions
  • Use of an automated external defibrillator* (AED)

* An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable automatic device that can restore normal heart rhythm and blood circulation in the event of a life-threatening arrhythmia. Amendments to the Medical Treatment Law provide that, as of 1 January 2024, AEDs must be available in public places in Latvia.
